Nigerian-born Eberechi Eze attracts Premier League attention, may join West Ham

Following his breakthrough season with Queens Park Rangers in which he was their standout player, Nigerian-born Eberechi Eze is now the focus of several Premier League clubs with West Ham looking more like a firm destination for the dreadlock-wearing playmaker.

According to the Evening Standard newspaper, West Ham manager David Moyes is lining up Eze as one of his top transfer targets this summer.

Wednesday night’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United made certain of the Hammers’ Premier League status for another season, allowing Moyes to press ahead with his plans.

The January arrivals of Jarrod Bowen, 23 and Tomas Soucek, 25, are the blueprint for the direction the Scot wants to take in the transfer market; young talents with a point to prove in the Premier League, and Eze fits the bill perfectly. If he has played his last game for Rangers, the 22-year-old signed off in style with a spectacular goal, his 14th of the season.

The Hammers will however face competition from London rivals Crystal Palace for the forward, who started every game in the Championship for Mark Warburton.

It is understood QPR value Eze at £20million but given the financial impact of Covid-19 on the transfer market and the club’s need to sell, they are likely to accept a lower figure and will not stand in his way of fulfilling a dream move to the Premier League.

Born to Nigerian parents in the Borough of Greenwich, the 22-year old’s form sparked a move by Super Eagles officials to make him switch allegiance from England for whom he played youth internationals.
