Nigerian midfielder Azubuike Okechukwu wins the Turkish league with Istanbul Basaksehir
Nigerian midfielder Azubuike Okechukwu has emerged winner of the Turkey Super Lig with Istanbul Basaksehir.
Istanbul Basaksehir sealed the Turkey league title with a 1 – 0 win against Kayserispor on Sunday, July 19th.
The only goal of the game for Istanbul Basaksehir was scored in the 19th minute when Mahmut Tekdemir converted a ball through to him by Gael Clichy.
Edin Visca had a chance to make it two for Istanbul Basaksehir but missed a penalty.
There were no goals in the second half but Istanbul Basaksehir held on for the win.
The win meant Istanbul Basaksehir have crowned champions as Trabzonspor suffered a 3 -4 loss at home to Konyaspor.
Istanbul Basaksehir recorded 69 points while Trabzonspor have 62 with just one game left to play.
Nigerian midfielder Azubuike Okechukwu who did not play in the deciding game took to his official Twitter account to celebrate being champions with Istanbul Basaksehir.
The message on his Twitter account said, “Yes. Turkish championsTrophySports medal. Always with my big bro.”
