No Nigerian Official As CAF Unveil Referees For AFCON 2025

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has released the list of referees that will officiate at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, with no Nigerian official involved.

It has been 19 years since a Nigerian officiated at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Emmanuel Imiere is the last Nigerian to officiate at the tournament and was in charge of one match at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Imiere took charge of Guinea’s 2-1 win over Zambia in the Group stage.

The continuous absence of Nigerian officials at CAF’s major tournaments, like the AFCON, raises questions about the quality of officiating in the Nigerian Premier Football League.

A total of 101 officials, including center referees, linesmen, and video assistant referees, will officiate at the tournament billed for 21 Dec 2025 – 18 Jan 2026.
