Super Falcons forward Ngozi Okobi has lauded Desire Oparanozie following her decision to retire from club and international football.
The Wuhan Jianghan winger decided to quit football at the age of 29 three months before her 30th birthday.
Oparanozie earlier announced her decision to retire from football on her X (formerly known as Twitter) handle.
“To my fans, family and friends, thank you for the support over the years. It’s time to take a bow, as I believe there’s no better time than now. I’m officially announcing my retirement from professional football for both club and country,” the Tweet reads.
Okobi also took to her X handle to appreciate Oparanozie.
“@desireoparanozie thank you and good luck in the future,” she Tweeted.
Oparanozie won the WAFCON (Women’s Africa Cup of Nations)in (2010, 2014, 2016 and 2018 with the Super Falcons. She won the tournament’s golden boot in 2014.
She scored 22 goals in 35 appearances for the Super Falcons of Nigeria.
She made one appearance for Nigeria at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup . The Super Falcons were ousted at round of 16 stage 4-2 on penalties by the Three Lionesses of England on August 7 at Lang Park.
