Onuachu with 25 goals snubbed but Musa without a club gets Eagles call-up: Questions Rohr must answer

Onuachu with 25 goals snubbed but Musa without a club gets Eagles call-up: Questions Rohr must answer

Gernot Rohr Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles on Tuesday, March 9th released a 24 man list for the upcoming 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against the Benin Republic and Lesotho.

The list has brought a lot of controversy regarding the old issue of selecting players to the national team based on merit.

The biggest point of controversy would be the exclusion of KRC Genk forward Paul Onuachu from the list.

This is because in 29 appearances for KRC Genk in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League Onuach has scored 25 goals and provided two assists to help his team to the top of the table.

Despite being in Belgium has an outside shot to win the European Golden boot battling out with Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Robert Lewandowski.

Also, Onuachu is the highest goalscoring striker in Europe and has even been tipped to be an expensive summer target for several top sides.

In contrast, Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa makes the list despite being inactive for over four months since he left Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr.

Onuachu’s absence without a doubt should have been selected ahead of Musa regardless of his previous achievements.
