Osimhen’s Brace Sends Galatasaray Into Turkish Cup Semi-final

Victor Osimhen bagged a brace to help Galatasaray secure a place in the semi-finals of the Turkish Cup. The Super Eagles striker scored twice in the first half as Galatasaray beat rivals Fenerbahçe away from home.

Osimhen gave the visitors the lead in the 10th minute as he pounced on a loose ball in the box to mark his 28th goal of the season across all competitions.

The referee waved off Fenerbahçe’s claim for a penalty after Alper Yilmaz appeared to have handled the ball in the box a few minutes after the opener.

However, in the 25th minute, the referee awarded the visitors a penalty after Filip Kostic handled the ball in the penalty area. After a VAR review, the referee stood by his original decision.

Victor Osimhen stepped up and converted the penalty to give Galatasaray a two-nil lead to give the visitors a comfortable lead before the half-hour mark.

Fenerbahçe, after a brief period of pressure on Galatasaray, halved the deficit just before halftime. The referee initially ruled out Sebastian Szymanski’s goal for offside, but VAR intervened and awarded the goal.

The second half was quite feisty as both sides created goal-scoring opportunities, but the goalkeepers made great saves to keep the scoreline the same.

Gunay Guvenc denied former Manchester United midfielder Fred on two occasions as Fenerbahçe tried to get back into the game.

Galatasaray held on to their lead as they progressed to the semi-finals of the competition, where they will take on Konyaspor.

The match didn’t end without controversy, as expected. Jose Mourinho, after the match, assaulted Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk as he appeared to have pulled his lips as he walked across the pitch.
