On August 11th, 1985 the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria won the inaugural edition of the FIFA U-16 World Championship.
The Golden Eaglets were underdogs going into the tournament but recorded several impressive victories to advance to the final.
In the final, the Golden Eaglets faced their counterparts from West Germany.
The Golden Eaglets would strike first as early as the fourth minute through Jonathan Akpoborie.
The Golden Eaglets would get their second of the game through Victor Igbinoba in the 79th minute.
They would hold to win the first-ever FIFA U-16 World Championship in front of 80,000 fans in attendance at the Workers’ Stadium, Beijing, China.
