The General Overseer of Living Faith Chapel alias “Winners Chapel”: Bishop Oyedepo remains one of the most vociferous critics of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. Bishop Oyedepo has never been shy to let out his displeasures on the state of the nation since President Buhari assumed office in May 2015 to date.
Here are three out of the numerous times Bishop Oyedepo has criticized the President:
July 2018
While reacting to the Herdsmen crisis in the country around this period, Bishop Oyedepo alongside the Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church, Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan; and a former Archbishop of the Catholic Church in Lagos, Cardinal Anthony Olubunmi Okogie called for the resignation of the President.
According to Bishop Oyedepo: “The most honorable thing for any non-performing leader to do is to resign. The most honorable thing is to resign. That’s my own for Mr. President. Resign! Get out of office! Even our Islamic friends in the North are calling on him (Buhari) to resign. Because that’s the noblest thing to do. Or are we going to look at one system destroy a whole nation?”
December 2019
While speaking at the last Shiloh program in December, the Bishop also took a swipe at the President for his failure to cater to the need of the people instead the President is focusing on misplaced priorities. in the words of the Bishop: “If government was doing well, the people would not complain.”

The Bishop once again criticized the Government’s approach on the proposed Hate Speech Bill while delivering a sermon during the second service at the Faith Terbanacle, Ota. Oyedepo claimed that the government is trying to criminalize hate speech while those who commit the actual offense go unpunished. The Bishop said:
“The government in this country is making a draconian law – hate speech. They said if you speak hatefully, you have committed murder. Out of someone who says I will kill you and the one who kills, who has committed a crime? I don’t understand which kind of animal farm we live in.
“In my view you are bad and you shouldn’t be a leader. I have the right to say so. As far as I am concerned, I am a true born and thoroughly-bred Nigerian, an intelligent one. In my view, this is the worst thing that has happened to Nigeria — this government. It is the worst and in fact, it is like a curse.
“I have been here for some time and I led the first prayer and fasting for Nigeria in 1979. I am not a baby in the affairs of Nigeria. This is the worst government, a government with no direction. Their days are numbered. I can tell you as a prophet that their days are numbered.”
