Nigeria women’s basketball team D’Tigress shocked the world again in women’s basketball event at the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympics.
While some fans argued that the team was lucky after the victory over Australia in their game, D’Tigress proved that their victory was no fluke as they put world number 5 Canada to the sword.
D’Tigress put up a sintilating performance as they recorded a 79-70 victory over Canada on Sunday afternoon.
The Nigerian ladies came into the game off the loss to France but coach Rena Wakama’s side started toe to toe with the Canadian ladies as the 1st quarter ended 18-18.
The 2nd quarter was also quite close but Canada edged it by 4 points and went into the first half with a 41-37 lead over the African champions.
The D’Tigress started the 3rd quarter with renewed momentum and they outplayed and outclassed the Canadians off the court.
The Canadian ladies were punished for their excessive turnovers as they only scored 5 points in 10 minutes of action while D’Tigress scored 23 points which were scored from the paint and from the 3 points line.
The D’Tigress went into tge final quarter with a fifteen point lead as the Canadians fought their way back into the game.
However, D’Tigress suatained their momentum as they held on to a 79-70 historic victory over the fifth best team in the world.
Led by coach Rena Wakama, D’Tigress set a record as the first African basketball team to play in the quarter-finals of the Olympics.
