The Paris 2024 Olympic Games is only a few days away and Super Falcons midfielder Toni Payne believes that the team is capable of excelling at women’s football event.
Payne, while speaking with “Super Falcons Show” at the Super Falcons training camp in Seville Spain, said the team is at a level where they can compete with the top-ranked teams.
The Sevilla Women midfielder alluded to the bond in the team and how the players are getting into the tournament mode just like they did at the Women’s World Cup last year.
“As the team is getting together, it definitely
feels like it’s tournament time again. Obviously being in the World Cup, that was such an amazing experience.
“So being able to compete again on the world stage with this team is such a really good opportunity. I’m really excited.”
When asked about the team’s preparation for their opening match against Brazil, Toni Payne acknowledged that the encounter will be difficult but the team is capable of getting a good result against team.
“Brazil, it’s going to be a tough team, they’re
very talented, but I think us, Nigeria, we are
at the level, so it’s going to be a good match.
And I think that we can get a good result
against them”
The Super Falcons will take on Canada in a warm up match on July 17 before travelling to Bordeaux for their opening match.
Randy Waldrum’s team are grouped alongside Spain, Brazil and Japan in Group C of the competition.
