Paris Olympic Games: D’Tigress Stun World Number 3 Australia In Women’s Basketball Event

Nigeria women’s basketball team D’Tigress put up a magical performance as they stunned the third best women’s basketball team in the world Australia at the ongoing Paris olympic games.

The D’Tigress showed forth a spirited performance in all four quarters of the match as they clinhed a 75-62 victory over the Australian ladies.

Despite starting the match with 0-6 deficit in the opening minutes of the 1st quarter, D’Tigress clawed their way back into the game.

The Nigerian ladies completely blew apart Australia in the 2nd quarter as they outscored them by 12 points to win the first half 41-28.

However, D’Tigress struggled with a lot of turnovers and poor shooting in the 3rd quarter which gave the Opals the opportunity of reducing the deficit.

The Opals were quite dominant in the third quarter as they made 50% of their 2 points shots and 42% of their 3 points shots while DTigress only recorded 45% from the paint but scored no points outside of the arc.

The final quarter started with DTigress having only a four points lead but coach Rena Wakama’s ladies reignited their 2nd quarter.

D’Tigress went ballistic and improved on thier shooting especially from the free throw line as outscored Australia by 9 points.

Veteran Ezinne kalu-Phelps leald the team in transition and shots selection as she scored 19 points, made 5 rebounds and assists each.

Point Guard Promise Amukamara also had a brilliant game as she registed 14 points and 9 assists in the match.

Reigning Women’s Afrobasket MVP, Amy Okonkwo had 13 points while former First Bank Women’s Basketball player, Murjanatu Musa scored 11 points and made 7 rebunds.

The victory over Australia is D’Tigress’ first-ever at the group stage of the Olympics and it’s their second in the history of the Olympics after their first against south korea at the Greece 2004 Olympics which came in a classification game.
