Real Madrid are officially the Spanish La Liga champions for the 2019/20 season.

Real Madrid beat Villarreal 2-1 in a matchday 37 La Liga encounter played on Thursday, July 16th to be crowned champions of Spain.

Zinedine Zidane’s side came into the game knowing that a win will secure the title and they got the job done.

Karim Benzema gave Real Madrid the lead in the 29th minute with his 20th La Liga goal of the season from a Luka Modric assist which they maintained up till the halftime break.

Benzema converted a penalty in the 77th minute for his second of the game, 21st of the La Liga campaign to put Real Madrid in cruise control.

However, Villarreal pulled one back in the 83rd minute when Mario Gaspar found Vicente Iborra.

Real Madrid would hold on for all three points to claim their 34th La Liga title which they would have won even without the victory as Osasuna pulled off a shock 2-1 away win at Barcelona.
