Remo Stars are the new champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League.

The Sky Blue Stars ended a 15-year wait for the title on Sunday evening with a slim 1-0 victory over Niger Tornadoes.

Fans filled the home ground to the rafters to witness the historic scene live, but the visitors tested their patience.

Niger Tornadoes put in a solid defensive shift as they looked to upset the home side on their day of joy.

The first half ended goalless with Daniel Ogunmodede’s boys in control but unlucky in front of goal.

The visitors also had moments at the other end of the pitch, but Beninois goalkeeper Adebiyi Obassa stood solid between the sticks.

With 10 minutes left on the clock, Olamilekan Adedayo powered a rocket-like shot into the back of the net to send the home fans wild.

The match ended 1-0 as Remo Stars clinched their first-ever NPFL title with three games to spare.

Remo Stars are the first team from the southwest region to win the title in 25 years after Julius Berger did in 2000.
