Remo Stars Thrash Gombe, Enyimba slip As Lobi Maintain Top Spot After NPFL Matchday 8

Remo Stars of Ikenne were unarguably the best team in the matchday 8 of the Nigeria Premier Football League.

The Sky Blue Stars showed that they are one the best team in the league as they outclassed Gombe United at home on Sunday.

Daniel Ogunmodede’s were just too good for the visitors as they put four unreplied goals past them.

Togolese forward, Franck Mawuena and midfielder Ahmed Akinyele had their efforts towrds goal saved by the goalkeeper as Remo Stars started the game with a clear intention.

It didn’t take too long before the home side took the lead and it was courtesy of their in form striker Sikiru Alimi.

The lanky stiker benefited from Dayo Ojo’s pass a from a drop ball by the goalkeeper, Kayode Bankole.

Franck Mawuena doubled the advantage a few minutes later from a brilliant combination between Ahmed Akinyele and Dayo Ojo who registered his second assist of the match.

The visitors had a chance at goal before half time but it fell imto the calm hands of Kayode Bankole.

The halftime ended with a comfortable 2 nil lead for the home side.

Gombe United looked to half the deficit immeditely after restart but Stanley Joseph put his body on the line to keep the scoreline the same.

Remo Stars went on to add to the misery of Gombe United before the hour mark. Substitute Aniekeme Okon tucked home a well-measured pass from Sikiru Alimi to make it 3 nil.

Adams Olamilekan scored what could have been a contender for the goal of the season but it was ruled offside.

Sikiru Alimi secured his brace as he brezzed through three defenders from Sodiq Ismail’s pass before riffling a sublime strike beyond the reach of the goalkeeper.

The one-sided affair ended in 4-nil in favor of the Remo Stars. The Sky Blue Stars are currently second with 15 points after 7 games while Lobi Stars who secured a narrow win over Sporting Lagos in Makurdi lead with 17 points after 8 games.

In other results, Enyimba’s poor start to the season continues as they fell to a 1 nil defeat to Kano Pillars away from home.

Abba Adam’s 71st minute strike made the difference aa the Aba Elephants fell to yet another defeat.

Katsina United and Plateau United both recorded home victories while Enugu Rangers and Bendel Insurance picked points away from home.
