Rivers United have extended their unbeaten run in the Nigeria Premier Football League to 8 matches after aecuring a victory at Niger Tornadoes.
The Finidi George-led side defeated Niger Tornadoes and also kept a clean sheet as they returned to the summit of the league table.
The encounter was keenly contested as the home side also showed intent to win the match.
The first half ended goalless. Both teams registered two shots on target each as they attempt to take control of the match.
However, it was the away side that broke the deadlock very early in the second half via a reportedly controversial scene.
Sieyefa Jackson gave the away the lead two minutes after the restart from a free kick into the box.
The goal was initially ruled for offside but was eventually given after the referee consulted his assistant.
Niger Tornadoes created loads of chances to restore parity and probably win the match but Rivers United goalie Osage Onisodumeya denied the home side on four occasions.
Rivers United’s midfielder Emmanuel Nnaji got his matching orders in added time of regular time after picking up a red card.
The match ended 1-0 in favour of the Pride of Ricers as they secured another victory away from home – their second this season.
