The Serie A has hailed Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen on the new Italian top flight record he set in the game with Atalanta.
The Partenopei defeated Atalanta 2-1 at the Gewiss Stadium on Saturday November 5.
Osimhen’s Nigerian compatriot Ademola Lookman scored the first goal of the game for Atalanta in the 19th minute via a penalty.
Osimhen equalised four minutes later and also assisted Elif Elmas’ goal in the 35th minute.
With Osimhen’s goal he has become Nigeria’s highest goalscorer in the Serie with 32 goals, one more goal than Simy Nwankwo and four more than Obafemi Martins.
Serie A took to Twitter to congratulate Osimhen.
“Congratulations on becoming the top Nigerian goalscorer in #Serie A history @victoroosimhen9,” they Tweeted.
Osimhen is currently the topscorer in Serie A this season with eight goals and two assists in nine games.
He has scored nine goals and recorded two assists in 12 games across all competitions this term.
Napoli are currently first in Serie A with 35 points from 13 games.
