Education
Shem Bowman graduated from Holbrook High School in 2014. He then spent a year at Grand Canyon University (GCU). During this time, Shem decided that joining the military would be an excellent way to further his education. He went to boot camp for a year before returning to GCU to finish his studies. He enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserves while still in college.

He faithfully served for four years. Shem continued at GCU after his honorable discharge from the USAF Reserves, and in 2019, he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences, graduating Summa Cum Laude and well-prepared for Pre-Med. He was intelligent, brilliant, and gifted. His family was extremely proud of him and all of his achievements.
Career
Shem worked as a lifeguard in Holbrook during his younger years, giving swimming lessons to many of the town’s youth and teaching many of them how to swim. He worked as an Ophthalmology Tech 1 for Phoenix Children’s Hospital and other private ophthalmologists while living in Phoenix and attending college, and then after college. Shem had a special fondness for children.
It was his lifelong ambition to work in pediatric medicine, and he was well on his way to achieving it. Shem most recently worked as a plant operator for Enterprise Products, a natural gas storage facility in Adamana, Arizona, east of Holbrook.
Relationship
Camille Griffith, Shem Bowman’s girlfriend, is alive, as many have speculated. She shared an emotional post on Facebook in memory of her boyfriend, who died in Chevelon Canyon.
Griffith had been dating Bowman since early 2018. They were exclusive in their social media posts by sharing photos of each other.

Shem Tyler Bowman died as a result of injuries sustained in a diving accident near the Chevelon Canyon Bridge, about 30 minutes outside of Holbrook, Arizona. He was 26 years old at the time. Shem Bowman was born on September 6, 1995, in Holbrook, Arizona, to Dr. Samuel Kent and Marian Louise (Stevens) Bowman.
Authorities were dispatched to the accident site. Around 1:30 p.m., dive teams from the Joseph City Fire Department and the Puerco Valley Fire Department arrived on the scene. Saturday.
They tracked down Shem, who had gone missing after jumping into Chevelon Creek the night before. When Bowman, a Holbrook resident, climbed out of the canyon, he was paddleboarding with friends and family. He then leaped off the bridge into the creek.
Shem was a young man who learned the value of hard work and the value of a good solid education from his parents. Shem was an Eagle Scout in The Boy Scouts of America when he was younger. He excelled in school and was an excellent athlete in high school. Shem was an All-American football player as well as an Arizona State Wrestling Champion.

The public visitation was held on Friday, June 10, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Owens Livingston Mortuary – Holbrook, Chapel, 409 N. First Avenue, in Holbrook, Arizona.
The Memorial Service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2022, in the Auditorium of Holbrook High School, 485 N. 9th Avenue in Holbrook (enter the auditorium off of Buffalo Street).
Shem’s casket was driven to the Holbrook Cemetery in the bed of his F-250, in procession behind the hearse, following the conclusion of the Memorial Service.
He was given full military honors and was laid to rest at the Holbrook Cemetery at 12 p.m.
