Shooting Stars Slammed With Fine, Stadium Closure After Fans’ Violence Against Ikorodu City

The Nigeria Premier Football League has placed a fine of N5 million on Shooting Stars for failing to control their fans after the match against Ikorodu City.

Shooting Stars hosted Ikorodu City at the Lekan Salami Stadium on Sunday evening, but violence from the home fans erupted after the match.

An eyewitness account states that the aggrieved fans attacked the center referee for not awarding a penalty to Shooting Stars on a few occasions.

Videos circulating online show how the home fans threw objects at the referee, Alaba Fumilayo, who reportedly was given a police uniform to wear to escape the angry mob.

Officials and players of Ikorodu City were reportedly locked in their dressing room without light in a bid to also escape the angry home fans.

Upon hearing, the disciplinary committee of the Nigeria Premier Football League have asked the Oluyole Warriors to pay a fine of N5 million.

Also, Shooting Stars will play the rest of their home matches behind closed doors till the end of the season.

The club is required to accept the decision of the committee or appeal the ruling within 48 hours.
