Ramon Abass who is otherwise known as “Hushpuppi” faces up to 20 years in jail after pleading guilty to charges of money laundering from Business Email Compromise and other internet scams.
Hushpuppi was arrested by Dubai SWAT police in June last year and was extradited to the US where he is currently facing trials.
According to Evan Ratliff, a US-based Journalist familiar with the case, Hushpuppi is likely to spend up to 20 years in jail after he agreed to plead guilty to the charges against him.
He shared this thought in a series of tweets on his page.
In his words;
“Ramon Abbas aka Ray Hushpuppi agreed today to plead guilty in federal court to conspiracy to engage in money laundering, of funds from business email compromise scams and other online heists. He’ll face up to 20 years in prison at sentencing.”
“In his plea agreement, Abbas admitted to laundering money from the Malta Bank heist and the BEC attacks on a Premier League club, another UK firm, and an American law firm, as well as additional schemes.”
“Abbas’s plea agreement, which involved crimes allegedly perpetrated by North Korean state-sponsored hackers, was heavily redacted, and many of the filings in the case remain sealed.”
Until his arrest, Hushpuppi lived a luxurious lifestyle in Dubai as he used some of the most expensive cars and designers wear which include, Gucci, Fendi, among others.
He also associates some of Premier League’s players of Nigerian descent as well as Nigerian music stars.
