Sunshine Stars Edge Ikorodu City In Seven-goal Spectacle In Ikenne

Sunshine Stars and Ikorodu City marked the resumption of the Nigeria Premier Football League with an exhilarating encounter in Ikenne.

Fans and neutrals were treated to a seven-goal thriller as Sunshine Stars defeated the visitors 4-3 at the Remo Stars homeground on Saturday evening.

Liman Ahmadu gave the home the lead after 16 minute.

Promise Awosanmi doubled the lead a few minutes later as Ikorodu City found themselves in sixes and sevens.

Ikorodu City after a period under siege, had a shot on target but Emmanuel Ofori pulled a brilliant save to deny Tosin Oyedokun.

Sunshine Stars pressed forward again and got another goal on the 34th minute courtesy of Alao Danlami.

Ikorodu City pulled one goal back in added time of the first half with Adelani Shola’s rebound in the box.

Adelani Shola steeped up again to bag a brace from a precise shot on the 65th minute to make the score line 3-2.

Also Danlami quashed Ikorodu City’s hope of stagginga dramatic comeback as he scored his second on the night to restore Sunshine Stars’ two-goal advantage.

Substitute Emmanuel Solomon scored in added time but his goal wasn’t enough to secure a point for the visitors as the match ended 4-3.

The win takes Sunshine Stars closer to the top half of the table as they currently occupy the 12th spot with 24 points after 20 matches.
