Super Eagles Ajayi’s West Brom suffer promotion setback…As Nwakali’s Huesca make La Liga return in one year

West Brom’s hope of Premier League promotion suffered a setback on Friday after their five game unbeaten run was brought to an end following a 2-1 loss to Huddersfield with Nigerian Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi playing all 90 minutes.

The defeat at the John Smith stadium was a massive blow to Baggie’s automatic promotion hopes as they are just a point above Brentford in second place, though the latter have a game in hand.

Dara O’Shea’s equalizer was not enough to save Slaven Bilic’s men as goals from Chris Willock and Emile Rowe steered Huddersfield town to a vital win and out of the relegation waters.

Meanwhile, in Spain, Kelechi Nwakali’s SD Huesca have been promoted back to La Liga just one year after suffering relegation following a 3-0 demolition of Numancia 3-0 on Friday night.

Nwakali, who joined Huesca in September 2019 on a three-year deal, was a second half substitute for Dani Ferreiro as coach Michel’s side sealed a top two place in this season’s Segunda, thanks to three second half goals against the visitors who have now dropped into the relegation zone.

Striker Rafa Mir opened the scoring from the penalty spot nine minutes after the break and the striker doubled his tally 15 minutes later.

Huesca made sure of the points and automatic promotion when Shinji Okazaki – formerly of Leicester City – added a third with a spectacular back-heel finish.

Huesca join Cadiz in winning automatic promotion to la liga this season.
