Super Eagles Concede Late Goal in Two-all Draw Against Saudi Arabia

The Super Eagles of Nigeria surrendered their 2-1 lead to a very late Saudi Arabia goal as they remain winless in last five International matches.

The first half of the match ended goalless but was keenly contested as both sides aimed at taking the lead.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface had the first real chance of the match but his shot was not saved by Mohammed Al Owais.

Samuel Chukweze also had the chance to give Nigeria the lead but his curler from the edge of the box went over the bar.

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho was called to action in the 36th minute as he made a save to keep the game goalless.

Both teams started the second half with the same drive just like the first half but it was the Arab nation who scored first via a free-kick in the 60th minute. Uzoho conceded a cheeky goal as Roberto Mancini’s side took the lead.

However, the lead only lasted for 13th minute as the Victor Boniface restored parity for Nigeria.

The Bayer Leverkusen’s striker put the ball beyond the reach of the goalkeeper from a square ball into the box by Moses Simon. The goal is his first for Nigeria.

The momentum swinged in favour of Jose Peseiro’s men and it didn’t take long before the second goal came in.

Kelechi iheanacho tool advantage of a clumsy clearance from Saudi Arabia defenders as buried a left curler into the net from the 18-yard area to make the score line 2-1.

With three minutes left in added time of regulation time, the Super Eagles conceded a late free kick around their goal araea and Mohammed Kanno’s strike took a deflection as it sailed into the back of Uzoho’s net.

The match ended two-all as the Super Eagles remained winless in six international matches.

The team will take on Mozambique in another international friendly match on the 16th of this month.
