The Super Eagles of Nigeria dropped two places from 32nd to 34th in the latest FIFA Coca-Cola ranking released on Thursday.
The drop can be traced to the poor performances of the team in the friendly matches played in June and July.
The Super Eagles lost and played a draw against Cameroun in a two-legged fixture in Austria before losing 4 nil to Mexico in a friendly match at the Los Angeles Coliseum, Los Angeles, California.
The team also dropped from 3rd to fifth in the African ranking while Senegal maintains its place as the best team on the continent. The Terenga Lions moved one place in the world ranking as they moved from 22nd to 21st.
A further drop will see the Super Eagles lose their place in pot 1 of the seedings ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations next year.
The men’s senior basketball team of Nigeria, D’Tigers on the back of their disappointing performance at the just-concluded Olympics also dropped in FIBA rankings published by Nike.
D’Tigers were placed 22nd going into the Olympics but defeats in all their group matches to Australia, Germany, and Italy, saw the team lost its place to Iran. D’Tigers are now 23rd in the rankings.
The rankings of the female team, D’Tigress who also suffered the same fate at the Olympics is yet to be published. Although, D’Tigress are ranked number 1 in Africa and 17th in the world.
USA are still ranked number one after their triumph at the Olympics while Slovenia moved 12 places from 16th to 4th.
