The Super Eagles of Nigeria will now take on current African Champions, Algeria and former Champions Tunisia ahead of next month’s friendly matches in Austria.
Algeria replaced Cote d’Ivoire who pulled out of the match citing “internal problems”. This was contained in a letter sent to the Nigeria Football Federation by the President of the Ivorian Football Federation.
Algeria immediately confirmed their willingness to take on the three time AFCON Champions afterΒ a phone conversation between between NFF’s President, Amaju Pinnick and “his Algerian opposite number, Mr. Kheireddine Zetchi”
The match against the reigning African Champions falls on within the FIFA free window and it is slated for the 9th of October at the Jacques Lemans Arena in Austria.
The last time the two heavyweights met was in July last year where the Atlas Lions defeated the Super Eagles 2-1 in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The Super Eagles will also take on the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia at the same venue four days later in what will be a rematch of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations playoff encounter which ended in a 1 nil victory for Gernot Rohr’s men.
