Dutch international who’s the latest arrival at Manchester United after his transfer from Ajax Amsterdam was confirmed on Wednesday has already settled for shirt number 34 to honour friend Abdelhak Nouri.
Nouri suffered a cardiac arrest during an Ajax friendly in 2017 which left him with permanent brain damage and Van De Beek is the latest former friend of Nouri’s from Ajax to wear his number at their respective clubs.
Justin Kluivert at Roma, Amin Younes at Napoli, Phillip Sandler at Anderlecht, Kevin Diks at Florentina and Joel Veltman at Brighton all wear the no 34.
