Top 10 Nigerian top scorers in Europe (2024/2025)

The 2024/2025 football season across major European leagues has ended, and a handful of Nigerian players did well for their respective club sides.

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen was the best-performing Nigerian player in Europe this season. He scored a string of goals to help Galatasaray win a domestic double.

Cyriel Dessers and Tolu Arokodare also had stellar performances as they finished as top scorers of their respective leagues.

Rinsola Babajide, the Super Falcons forward, had a decent outing with Costa Adeje Tenerife Egatesa in the Women’s Spanish La Liga, recording 15 goal contributions in 28 appearances.

1.  Victor Osimhen

The Super Eagles’ first-choice striker had a stellar season while on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli. The 26-year-old forward helped the Turkish champions retain the Super League as he bagged 25 goals in 29 league appearances. Osimhen scored a brace in the Turkish Cup final as Galatasaray beat Trabzonspor 3-0 to win their 19th Cup title. Victor Osimhen is leading the race to win the Golden Boot as he leads the scorers chart with 25 goals, four goals ahead of Istanbul Basaksehir’s Krzysztof Piatek. Osimhen currently has 36 goals and 6 assists in 39 matches, with a game left in the league.

The reigning African Footballer of the Year had a decent season with Atalanta as he helped La Dea clinch a Champions League ticket for next season. Lookman also made the Italian Serie A team of the season for the second consecutive year, as he scored fifteen goals and five assists in 31 matches. The Super Eagles forward scored 20 goals. Seven assists in 37 matches, as he looks set to leave the club at the end of the season.

3. Cyriel Dessers

Dessers had a brilliant outing with Glasgow Rangers. He finished as top scorer in the Scottish Premier League with 18 goals. The 30-year-old forward had an impressive run in the Europa League with three goals and four assists in 12 matches. Cyriel Dessers bagged 24 goals and provided seven assists in 53 matches for the Gers.

4. Tolu Arokodare

Arokodare’s season was quite remarkable, as he did well for Genk even though they didn’t win the Belgian Jupiler League. The 24-year-old striker won the 2025 Ebony Shoe award, which recognizes the best player of African descent in the Belgian League. Tolu Arokodare also finished as the top scorer of the Belgian League with 21 goals in 40 matches. Arokodare finished the season with 28 goals and 5 assists in 52 matches.

5. Edna Imade

The Nigerian striker shone brighter than others in the team this season. Imade helped Granada finish in fifth place as she scored sixteen goals and provided an assist in 29 matches. Imade scored a goal en route to Granada’s Copa Del Reina semi-final finish. Edna Imade scored 17 goals and two assists in 30 matches.

6. Victor Olatunji

Olatunji set the record as the first Nigerian player to score and assist on his Champions League debut. Victor Olatunji scored and provided an assist in Sparta Prague’s 3-0 win over FC Salzburg at the ARENA in September.  Olatunji scored Victor Olatunji scored 12 goals and had an assist in 44 matches.

7. Victor Boniface

The Bayer Leverkusen striker had a quite underwhelming season as he struggled with injuries and game time, unlike his first season at the club, where he helped secure the unbeaten run en route to winning the league and the DFB Pokal. Nevertheless, Boniface recorded double figures in goals, 10 in 26 matches, as Leverkusen failed to defend their Bundesliga title.

8. Rinsola Babajide

The Super Falcons striker improved on her debut season as she recorded 10 goals and five assists in 28 matches. Rinsola Babajide scored a fantastic goal against Real Madrid and also registered a goal against Barcelona as she wrapped up an impressive individual season.

9. Iwobi

Alex Iwobi rounded off his ninth consecutive season in the Premier League on a brilliant note. The midfielder had arguably his best individual season in the league as he bagged 9 goals and 6 assists in 38 matches. Iwobi appeared in Fulham’s 38 Premier League matches and created the most big chances, -12, and the most through balls.

10. Moses Simon

The Super Eagles winger is in contention to win the Best African Player in Ligue 1 this season. Moses Simon’s goals and assists – eight and 10 in 32 matches—helped Nantes remain in the French top division as the Canaries finished 13th on the log. Simon is also in the running to win the Best Dribbler award in Ligue 1.
