Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong made an impressive start to life at his new club Salernitana with a win as Salernitana recorded a surprise victory away at Lecce.
The Nigerian defender made the starting eleven and was on for the duration of the match as Salenitana beat Lecce 2-1 at the Stadio Via del Mere which had over 24,000 fans in attendance.
Troost-Ekong who joined the Serie A side on loan this January made a couple of tackles and clearances as he helped Salernitana secure all three points.
Senegalese striker Boulaye Dia gave the away side the lead in the 5th minute as he buried a powerful striker from the edge of the box.
Boulaye Dia provided the assist for the second as he found Dutch midfielder Tonny Vilhena in space and the 28-year-old made no mistake as he tucked the ball into the net to make it two-nil for his side.
Gabriel Strefezza pulled one back for Lecce in the 23rd minute after he was teed up by Guiseppe Pezella in Salernitana’s box. The 25-year-old swiftly buried the ball into the bottom right corner of Ochoa’s goal.
Salernitana are currently 14th on the log with 21 points after 29 games.
