Tuchel explains Odoi substitution after Chelsea playout 1-1 draw at Southampton
Thomas Tuchel has given his thoughts on the substitution of Callum Hudson-Odoi as Chelsea played out a 1-1 draw away against Southampton in a Premier League encounter played on Saturday, February 20th.
Southampton went ahead in the 33rd minute when Liverpool loanee Takumi Minamino converted a ball through to him by Nathan Redmond.
In the 54th minute Chelsea equalised when Mason Mount converted a penalty.
At halftime Tuchel introduced Callum Hudson-Odoi for Tammy Abraham.
However in the 76th minute substitute Callum Hudson-Odoi was taken off for Hakim Ziyech
At his post match press conference, Tuchel explained the reason for his decision.
He said, “No, absolutely not. Everyone has to understand that I take decisions to win games and there is no problem that he makes mistakes and has a bad game, but we can’t lack energy even 10% or 5%.
“He knows what I demand from him and when he doesn’t reach this level, it’s a hard decision.
“He’s a bit in trouble when he comes off the bench; against Sheffield United and today. He needs to hang in a different day.
“He has to accept it, swallow it. Then no problem.”
