
The Flying Eagles of Nigeria rounded off their final Group B match at the ongoing Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations on a disappointing note.
Ali Zubairu’s men failed to top Group B as they forced an unlucky Kenyan side to a two-all draw at the June 30 Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Kenya came into the game seeking their first point or win but got the former as they exited the tournament.
Kevin Wanganya put Kenya ahead from the penalty spot after six minutes.
However, Kparabo Arierhi restored parity for the Flying Eagles seven minutes later with a close-range finish from Simon Cletus’ pass.
The first half ended one-all as both sides struggled to convert their chances.
Kparabo Arierhi missed the opportunity to put the Flying Eagles ahead as he fired his shot towards the goalkeeper.
The East Africans took the lead for the second time in the game in the 68th minute. William Gitamu latched on to Humphrey Obino’s cross from a free kick to put the Kenyans ahead.
Unfortunately, the lead didn’t last, as the Kenyans conceded a penalty a few minutes later.
Flying Eagles captain Daniel Bameyi stepped up and converted to draw the seven-time champions level.
Substitute Divine Oliseh missed a last-ditch chance to seal the win for the Flying Eagles as he miscued his shot.
The chaotic tie ended in a two-all draw as the Flying Eagles progressed to the last eight of the competition with five points, two behind group winners Morocco.
