OTD in 1930, Uruguay beat Argentina, 4-2 in 1st FIFA World Cup Final (video)

On July 30th, 1930 Uruguay beat Argentina 4-2 to win the first-ever FIFA World Cup

Uruguay were the tournament host and favourites to win on home soil.

They advanced to the final were they would meet South American rivals Argentina.

In the final, Uruguay went on front through Pablo Dorado in the 12th minute.

Argentina equalized through Carlos Peucelle in the 20th minute and went ahead through a goal by Guillermo Stábile in the 37th minute to take a 2-1 lead to the halftime break.

Pedro Cea equalized for Uruguay in the 57th minute and Santos Iriarte put them back in front in the 68th minute.

Argentina tried to find a late equalizer ut Héctor Castro scored in the 89th minute to seal the victory for Uruguay who were crowned the first-ever FIFA World Cup winners in front of 68,346 fans in attendance at the Estadio Centenario, Montevideo.
