Victor Nosa Ikpeba, former African player of the year, was born on this day June 12, 1973 in Benin City, Edo state.
In this exclusive interview with www.naijasuperfans.com, Ikpeba who is fondly referred to as the Prince of Monaco reveals how he got the moniker that has stuck like a second name even almost two decades after his active playing days.
The ex-Super Eagles forward first shot into limelight as an integral part of the U-17 World Cup in Scotland 1989 before going on to have a hugely successful European career with a number of big teams including RFC Liege (Belgium), AS Monaco (France), Borussia Dortmund (Germany) and Real Betis (Spain) among others.
He won four AFCON medals for Nigeria (Bronze in 1992 and 2002; Gold in 1994 and a runners-up medal in 2000).
He was also a member of the Super Eaglea golden generation which reached a first-ever senior FIFA World Cup in 1994 and also helped Nigeria’s U-23 Dream Team to win Africa’s first Olympic football gold at Atlanta ’96.
Ikpeba, in retirement, lives in Lagos and is a brand endorser and television sports pundit.
