Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has been conferred with the Member of the order of the Federal Republic (MFR) award by the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Osimhen was given the award for his achievements in football which put the country in a positive light.
The Napoli striker won the 2015 U-17 FIFA World Cup in Chile with the Golden Eaglets winning the golden boot of the tournament with a record 10 goals.
This season with his club Napoli he steered the side to a third ever league title and he is in pole position to become the first ever African to win the Serie A golden boot.
Osimhen celebrated the MFR honour on Twitter.
“I feel so blessed and honoured to announce that I have been awarded the prestigious Member of the order of the Federal Republic (MFR) award by the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Today also marked my 100th appearance for Napoli and I was fortunate to score two goals for my club,” he wrote
Osimhen has scored 15 goals in 24 games for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
He has a league leading 25 goals and four assists in 31 Serie A games this season.
Other recipents of the award are Musician Davido who was given the Officer of the order of the Niger (OON), Movie Director Kunle Afolayan who also awarded with Officer of the Order of Naija (OON).
