On this day in 1998, Sunday Oliseh scored one of the most memorable World Cup goals of all time as the Nigeria Super Eagles inflicted a 3-2 defeat on Spain in Nantes, France.
Nigeria’s starting-XI on the day comprised of Peter Rufai, Mobi Oparaku, Celestine Babayaro, Uche Okechukwu (c), Taribo West, Finidi George, Mutiu Adepoju, Jay Jay Okocha, Garba Lawal, Sunday Oliseh, and Victor Ikpeba. Subs were Rashidi Yekini, Tijani Babangida, and Godwin Okpara.
In the Spanish starting-XI were Andoni Zubizarreta (c), Albert Ferrer, Iván Campo, Miguel Ángel Nadal, Rafael Alkorta, Sergi, Luis Enrique, Fernando Hierro, Raúl, Alfonso, and Kiko. Subs on the day were Guillermo Amor, Joseba Etxeberria, and Albert Celades.
