Video of the day: Roger Milla makes World Cup history at Italia ’90

Roger Albert Milla, Cameroon superstar sealed his legendary status in 1990 as, at the age of 38, he became the oldest player to score at the World Cup when he bagged a brace in the Indomitable Lions’ 2-1 win over Romania.⁣⁣

 

Swedish legend Gunnar Gren previously held the record when he scored at the age of 37 years 236 days in Sweden’s 2-1 victory over West Germany in the semi-final at the 1958 World Cup.⁣⁣

Milla would end his campaign at Italia ‘90 with four goals, in the process helping Cameroon to become the first African team to reach the World Cup quarter-finals, before coming out of retirement four years later to extend his record.⁣⁣
