Yakubu Aiyegbeni is very famous Nigerian football history not because his goal won the Super Eagles the Nations Cup or earned the team a historic FIFA World Cup semi-finals.
He’s famous because of a very terrible miss at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa which comes to mind each time his name is mentioned.
If he had scored that open net miss, the Super Eagles would have booked their spot narrowly into the second round with a 3-2 victory most likely against South Korea.
However, he remains one of the most prolific goal scorers in the history of the Super Eagles with 21 goals in 57 appearances for the Super Eagles.
On this day, the Benin City-born striker clocks 38.
He played for a handful of clubs in Europe, especially in England during his active days.
Enjoy one of his famous moments in the Premier League – a double brace for Blackburn against Swansea in 2011.
