Who is Matt McGorry?
Matt McGorry was born and raised in Manhattan, New York, and began performing at the age of nine. He graduated from Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts in 2008 after attending Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School in New York.
Career
McGorry began his career as a personal trainer, Men’s Journal fitness writer, and competitive bodybuilder. McGorry began performing at the age of nine, and he was given the opportunity to showcase his early stage performance. After finishing his education, he went into film to work in the entertainment industry. In 2011, he made his television debut on the ABC daytime soap opera One Life to Live. But it was not an easy road for him; he faces numerous obstacles and responsibilities. But he never gave up, and his perseverance paid off.
Then success began to increase. He has appeared in over a dozen films, including Thursday as Grey Malcolm and Gizor & Gorm as Gorm in 2006, Public Access as Vlado and Afghan Hound as Tom in 2010, and How He Fell in Love as Travis in 2015. One Life to Live, Person of Interest, Gossip Girl, Orange Is the New Black, and many other TV shows have featured him.

Matt McGorry is not gay, and he does not appear to have a wife. He is heterosexual, but he admitted to experimenting with men when he was younger in a 2018 Man Talk roundtable, adding, “I, like many straight boys, experimented with other boys. But it’s so common that no one ever mentions it. I don’t believe it was sexual, and I’m straight and have never been attracted to boys. I had so much shame about that, for years after, thinking ‘I’m going to be famous one day, maybe, and someone’s going to find and it’s going to become this thing and it’s going to destroy me.”
McGorry is a police and prison abolitionist, feminist, and general social activist.
McGorry made his television debut in 2011 on the ABC daytime soap opera One Life to Live. He later appeared in guest roles on Person of Interest, Gossip Girl, and Royal Pains before breaking out in a recurring role as corrections officer John Bennett on the Netflix dramedy series Orange Is the New Black from 2013 to 2015.
McGorry was cast as series regular Asher Millstone on Shonda Rhimes’ drama series How to Get Away with Murder in 2014, a role he held until 2020. He was cast in the indie drama How He Fell in Love the same year.
McGorry appeared in Archive 8 as Mark Higgins for eight episodes in 2022.
