Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr has always received criticisms as regards not giving local based players in the Nigeria Professional Football League the opportunity to play in the National team.
The Manager’s preference for foreign based players has made some football enthusiasts reach the conclusion that the German tactician doesn’t rate players in the local league.
While speaking to a German (Mannhiemer Morgen) Gernot revealed that the local based players are not better than their foreign counterparts.
In his words: “Because they are not good enough and because I have better ones. There are so many good players in Europe. I have invited more than 20 local players since 2016. If they are good, sooner or later they’ll all end up in Europe.”
Heartland’s goalkeeper: Ikechukwu Ezenwa is the only local based players who has been a consistent member of the team since Rohr took charge in 2016.
On the flipside, Rohr said he wish to continue as coach of the Super Eagles as long as he is healthy and fit.
He will remain coach of the team until December 2022 after signing a contract extension recently.
