Real Madrid midfielder, Toni Kroos has slammed the decision to award the Ballon d’Or to Lionel Messi of Paris Saint-Germain this year.
Messi, according to Kross, does not deserve to win the Ballon d’Or in 2021, and that there should have been others ahead of him.
Messi was crowned the winner of the Ballon d’Or 2021 on Monday night in Paris by France Football, the award’s organisers.
Messi won the Ballon d’Or this year, beating out Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich and Jorginho of Chelsea (third place).
The former Barcelona captain scored 613 points, while Lewandowski came in second with 580.
Speaking on his podcast, Kroos said: “It’s absolutely not deserved.
“There is no doubt that Messi, with Cristiano, has been the player of the last decade, but this year there should’ve been others ahead of him.”
