Why Super Eagles Will Win 2023 AFCON! – Taiwo Awoniyi

Nottingham Forest striker, Taiwo Awoniyi is highly optimistic that the Super Eagles of Nigeria win the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for Cote D’Ivoire next January.

The former youth international was a second half substitute as Nigeria qualified for the tournament with a game to spare after sealing a narrow 3-2 victory over Sierra Leone in June.

While speaking to Channels television in a recent chat, Awoniyi highlighted reasons why the Super Eagles will emerged champions.

“I think everyone in the squad is happy; the first stage is to qualify for the AFCON which we did already, then the next stage now is just to try everything possible to win the AFCON, which is the target for the country,” Awoniyi told Channels Television.

“The last one was an experience, I was there and we are happy we are there again and of course, we want to go there and we want to win the trophy for sure.”

Awoniyi was part of the Super Eagles team that crashed out in the second round of the last tournament in Cameroon after a 1 nil loss against Tunisia.

The Austin Eguavoen-led team were tagged favourites after they secured maximum points in the group stage.

The Super Eagles will look to win their fourth Africa Cup of Nations title in Cote D’Ivoire next year ten years after they won their last title. Their last triumph was at the 2013 edition of the tournament in South Africa under late former captain and coach, Stephen Keshi.

The Super Eagles defeated Burkina-Faso 1-0 courtesy of Sunday Mbah’s 40th minute strike.
