Why we are having challenges ending insurgency in the country – Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed

Lai Mohammed said the country is making concrete efforts to acquire military hardware from foreign countries in order to deploy than in the fight against insurgency.

He also said the country needs the support of the other countries in the world to help in the fight agunst insurgency in the country. He said they have to do more in helping the country its unconventional warfare against terrorists in the country.

However, Lai Mohammed said despite the efforts of the President Buhari Administration to buy some of the equipment needed to end insurgency in the country, some World Powers have refused to sell weapons to Nigeria.

The Minister made this claim in an interactive session with the News Agency of Nigeria recently.

“I want to use this opportunity to say that the international community can help us better than they are doing right now. “

“To fight terrorists we need platforms and weapons.”

“When the international community is weighed by unsubstantiated arguments to deny the country of vital platforms and weapons to fight insecurity, you cannot turn round to accuse the country of not fighting terrorism.”

“Certain world powers have refused to even sell to us certain vital weapons.”

“For more than two to three years now, we have paid for certain vital weapons that they have not released to us and they even refused to give us spare parts.

“I think our appeal to them is that they should please help Nigeria to provide us with these sensitive platforms so that we can fight insecurity more effectively.”

The Minister said Nigerians need to calm down and access the situation now and before the President Buhari administration came into power in order to understand that the government has out in a lot of efforts to improve the state of security in the country.
