Former Super Eagles striker, Jonathan Akpoborie has slammed the Nigeria Football Federation for using players from the Nigeria Professional Football League for the forthcoming friendly match against Mexico.

According to the former Wolfsburg striker, the purpose of the friendly match has already been defeated with the use of the players from the league instead of the main team.

He added that the friendly match was meant to keep the players in top shape ahead of their 2022 World Cup Qualifier against Liberia in September.

Akpoborie said this while speaking to Complete Sports recently.

In his words;

“I am disappointed with the decision of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to prosecute the international friendly game against Mexico with players from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).”

“For me, the whole essence of organizing the game was to keep the foreign-based players in shape ahead of the World Cup qualifiers. But it appears the purpose has been defeated by this move. I am not saying that the home-based players are not good enough for the encounter,” Akpoborie concluded.”

The home-based players are currently camped in Abuja ahead of the match against Mexico which. Is scheduled for the 4th of July at the Los Angeles Coliseum.
