2023 AFCON: Why Cote D’Ivoire Must Not Underrate Super Eagles! – Drogba

Former African Footballer of the Year, Didier Drogba has warned the Ivorian national football team, The Elephants not to underrate the Super Eagles of Nigeria ahead of next month’s Africa Cup of Nations on home soil.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are in group A alongside host Cote D’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.

While speaking to BBC in a recent interview, the former Ivorian captain revealed that the Super Eagles have players like Victor Osimhen and alluded that there are no lucky draws.

“There’s no such thing as a generous draw because all the teams deserve to be here and they’re going to fight,” Drogba told the BBC.
“Nigeria, with Victor Osimhen and all the players they have, is a big team. We mustn’t forget the other two teams because there are always surprises.”

“I think that our main asset will be to focus on our game, our team, our strengths and try to progress. It’s up to us to make the most of it, get behind our team and make sure the trophy stays at home.”

Nigeria and Cote D’Ivoire, the two former champions will clash at the Alhassane Quattara Stadium, Ebimpe, Abidjan on January 18.

Cote d’Ivoire will host the 2023 edition of AFCON from January 13 to February 11.
