OTD in 1988 Mike Tyson knocks out Michael Spinks in just 91 seconds (video)
On June 27th, 1998 Mike Tyson beat Michael Spinks in one of the greatest heavyweight boxing fights of all time.
A young Mike Tyson had already ascended to the pinnacle of heavyweight boxing.
Tyson was the undisputed heavyweight boxing champion as he held the World Boxing Council (WBC), World Boxing Association (WBO), and International Boxing Federation (IBF) belts which were of the three major sanctioning organizations.
Spinks however was regarded as the people’s champion as he held the belts before he was stripped and at the time was the lineal champion and also had the Ring Magazine title.
The fight took place at Atlantic City Convention Hall but did not last long as Tyson emerged victorious with a vicious uppercut which Spinks could not recover from as the fight ended after just 91 seconds.
