Arjen Robben comes out of retirement to play for FC Groningen, his boyhood club (video/photos)
The Flying Dutchman, Arjen Robben has come out of retirement to play for his boyhood club FC Groningen.
Robben retired from professional football after his last season with Bayern Munich in the 2018/19 season.
Robben started his professional football career in the Dutch Eredivisie for Groningen from 2000 till 2002 and scored eight goals in 46 appearances before moving to PSV Eindhoven.
The return of Robben was confirmed via a statement on Groningen’s official website and he is expected to retire where he started.
A statement on the club’s official website said, “Arjen Robben wants to make his comeback on the football fields. The 36-year-old top player has been in training for weeks to be part of the first selection of FC Groningen at the start of the 2020/2021 season.
“The Pride of the North is delighted and gilded that Robben wants to try once again to make a comeback in professional football ‘out of club love’.
