Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare has been left out of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ pre-season training camp squad in Portugal, deepening uncertainty over his future at Molineux. The Nigerian forward remained in England as the rest of the squad travelled out on Monday for a week-long camp ahead of the club’s return to the Championship.
Fiorentina are leading the race to sign Arokodare, though Wolves have already rejected an initial loan bid from the Serie A side, deeming the fee too low. The Italian club is expected to return with an improved offer in the coming days, with talks between the two parties still ongoing.
Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor also had a loan approach turned down last week and remain interested, but Arokodare is understood to prefer a move to the Serie A.
New Wolves head coach Cesar Peixoto does not appear to see a future for the striker at the club, continuing a stance held by his predecessor Rob Edwards, who wanted Arokodare moved on following a dressing-room clash with teammate Mateus Mane after last season’s 4-0 defeat to West Ham.
Arokodare joined Wolves last summer in a deal worth up to £24 million but managed just six goals in 38 appearances as the club suffered relegation from the Premier League. His omission from the pre-season squad is widely seen as a signal that a permanent exit or loan move is imminent.
With Fiorentina working on an improved proposal and other European clubs monitoring the situation, the 25-year-old’s next destination is expected to become clearer in the coming weeks as the transfer window progresses.
