Ghana captain, Andre Ayew has bemoaned the Black Stars of Ghana’s ouster from the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Uruguay defeated Ghana 2-0 December 2 at the Al Janoub Stadium
Ghana’s skipper Andre Ayew missed a penalty kick and Giorgian de Arrascaeta scored a brace all in the first half.
Ayew lamented the defeat and his missed spot kick after the game.
“We had the opportunity to get to the next stage, I missed the penalty,” Ayew said.
“It’s difficult to take, I did not get it right. I am very optimistic for the future. I am sad but we will try and make it better.”
Ayew scored one goal in three games at Qatar 2022.
Ghana are the first team to miss two penalties against the same team (Uruguay) at the FIFA World Cup.
The Black Stars were only able to get three points from three games at the Mundial.
Ghana have participated at four FIFA World Cups; Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014 and Qatar 2022.
