Barcelona sacked coach Ronald Koeman after a 1-0 LaLiga loss to Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday, the club’s third loss in their past four leaguegames. After a string of disappointing results leading up to the October international break, Koeman’s position was severely damaged, with back-to-back defeats against Real Madrid and Rayo this week proving the breaking point. “Barcelona has removed Ronald Koeman of his duties as first team coach,” the club announced in a statement. After the defeat against Rayo Vallecano, the club’s president, Joan Laporta, notified him of the decision. On Thursday, Ronald Koeman will bid his squad farewell at the Ciutat Esportiva. “FC Barcelona wishes him all the best in his professional career and thanks him for his contribution to the Club.” In August 2020, Koeman left his previous position as manager of the Netherlands to take over at Barca, succeeding Quique Setien, and led the team to third place in LaLiga in his first season. Barca are now in ninth place in the league with 15 points, and will play Deportivo Alaves at home on Saturday.
