Delta State: Man jumps into well, dies after killing wife

A middle-aged man, Ikedi Peter, has reportedly committed suicide after killing his wife.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Ikedi killed his wife, Prophetess Chikordi Peter, of the Ancient of Days Healing Church, Umunede, in the Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State.

Although the details of the murder were still sketchy as of the time of filing this report, a community source told our correspondent that Peter jumped into a well after allegedly killing his wife, who was the general overseer of the church.

It was gathered that trouble started around 4am on Sunday, when the couple had a disagreement.

The man was said to have run to his hometown in Ekwuoma, a neighbouring village, where he jumped into the well.

A source said, “They were staying in Umunede community. Before we knew what was happening, they said the man killed his wife and ran to his hometown and jumped into a well.

“The man died immediately. As it is now, we don’t know what actually caused the problem.”

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edafe Bright, confirmed the incident.

He said, “It is true. The man killed his wife and killed himself. For now, no reason was given and investigation is ongoing to ascertain what actually happened.”
