FIFA U-20 World Cup: Flying Eagles Snatch Late Point To Book Second Round Spot

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will play in the last sixteen of the ongoing FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Chile after a positive result in their last group match.

Aliyu Zabairu’s boys qualified for the second as the second best loser behind France after snatching a point off Colombia.

The Flying Eagles struggled with composure in front of the goal and were quite unlucky as they struck the woodwork thrice after Colombia took the lead six minutes into the second half.

Kener Gonzalez, captain of the side found himself in space inside the Flying Eagles box as he buried the ball into the far corner from a squared pass.

Suleiman Sani had missed the chance to level the scoreline but the 19-year-old winger headed straight at the goalkeeper .

However, with less than five minutes to the end of the tie, the Flying Eagles were awarded a penalty and captain, Daniel Bameyi, once again stepped up and converted to restore parity.

The draw earned the Flying Eagles a place in the second round of the competition where they will take on Argentina for a place in the quarter-finals.
