Enyimba coach Finidi George has reacted to his side’s Naija Super 8 playoff victory over Heartland FC at the Eket Township Stadium on Saturday, June 24.
Murphy Ndukwu gave his club the lead in the 25th minute with a vollyed effort that landed in the net. Chisom Okereke had a chance to double the scores for Enyimba in the 39th minute but couldn’t played his shot wide.
Olorunleke Ojo blocked a goal bound shot from Heartland to keep the scoreline the same. The People’s Elephant struggled a lot in front of goal as Eriugo had a chance to score for Enyimba but couldn’t find the net.
Enyimba held on to their slim victory till the end as they booked their spot in the finals of the competition.
While speaking to the media after the match, the former Super Eagles player said he is happy with the victory but unhappy with the display of his team in the second half especially.
“We knew it would be difficult,” Finidi said
“Happy we won but not happy with the way we played, especially in the second half. Overall we had chances to score a second goal, but I am not happy about the play. We were lucky they didn’t get an equaliser,” the Tweet reads
With the win Enyimba will represent the South-East Zone at the main Naija Super 8 tournament.
Lobi Stars, Remo Stars and Yobe Desert Stars have also qualified for the Naija Super 8. The remaining teams will secure their place in the Super 8 on Sunday.
The Naija Super 8 tournament will be held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos between July 7 and July 16.
